Diversity
As one of the top business schools, Chicago GSB believes strongly in preparing leaders who bring diverse viewpoints to the workplace.
- First university to grant a PhD in Business to a woman, Ursula Batchelder Stone (1929)
- Chicago awards its first MBA to an African American, Lionel Wallace (1942)
- First to establish a minority program (1964)
- GSB students found the National Black MBA Association (1970)
The conviction that diversity enhances learning is a fundamental tenet of the Chicago MBA. We are strongly committed to fostering an environment where different perspectives are encouraged and embraced.
Graduate School of Business Student Groups
We have a number of student-led groups that focus on diversity and cultural awareness. These include:
- African American MBA Association/Hispanic American Business Student Association
The part-time joint AAMBAA/HABSA group provides a students a platform for networking with peers and alumni, building community within the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, providing information for diversity recruiting, and reaching out to the wider community through service projects.
- Gays and Lesbians in Business
GLIB is a GSB student organization working to advance social and professional opportunities for gay and lesbian members of the GSB community, as well as to foster a more diverse environment at the University of Chicago. Our membership provides a great way for current students to build contacts with GSB alumni and students at other business schools.
- Graduate Women in Business
Graduate Women in Business is a non-profit student association organized to provide women of the GSB a forum for professional development and for mentoring and networking both within the school and in the community at large.
- Partners' Club
The GSB Partners’ Club mission is to provide a social network for the significant others of GSB Evening MBA and Weekend MBA students and alumni. Activities throughout the year offer wives, husbands and partners a range of opportunities to get involved in the GSB community.
